The Importance of Planning Ahead

Every parent of young children knows what it’s like to try to leave the house on any given day. Whether it’s to get them to school or daycare in the morning, or even just to make a quick run to the store, it can be a challenge to get out the door. It usually doesn’t take too long to figure out that planning ahead and preparing are the best ways to combat those everyday challenges and it’s no different when you are thinking about a Disney vacation, here is a brief overview.

Planning step one: Do your research! Explore all that the resort has to offer! Being an avid Disney fan myself, planning a trip is half the fun. In the several trips I’ve planned for my family, I always discover new things along the way. There are 33 hotels and counting on Disney property which means there’s practically something for every taste and budget. Disney has categorized and themed their resorts so it makes choosing one simpler. Check out all four theme parks and their attractions. Map out the ones that interest you and your family. Finally, discover all your dining options. Disney World has some fantastic dining options in all categories. Involve your travel party if you are able, get their opinions and make it fun.

Planning step two: Reserve things early! Things book fast at the Walt Disney World Resort especially during peak season, so make sure you get those reservations done early, especially for dining. Dining reservations can be booked up to 180 days in advance and some of the most popular restaurants will book quickly once that window opens up. In order to avoid dinner with your little ones at 9pm, or missing out on that reservation all together be sure to book things early. You can always change or cancel your reservations within 24 hours so you are better safe than sorry.

Planning step three: Pack smart! You may not be packing for a Safari (or are you?!), but you sure will be walking a ton and mostly at your hotel to sleep or take an afternoon break so packing is just as important as planning to get there. When packing for trips with my family I like to pack for each day like I plan each day. I have small backpacks for everyone that serves as both a carryon for the plane ride and later supplies for inside the parks. There are stores at each resort where you can purchase something you may forget, but they are expensive, so make lists and check off your essentials.

Finally: Sprinkle that pixie dust and be on your way! You’ll feel great knowing that everything is planned and you’ve come prepared. Enjoy the sights around you because it truly is magical.
