As many of you know, Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World is getting a MAJOR facelift. While we are excited for the changes to come, the current construction has caused some huge problems for visitors.
As a part of the renovation, the parking lots from Pleasure Island down to Cirque du Soleil on the west side have been torn up. The new parking ramps are absolutely needed but right now it’s causing huge delays during busy times. Parking is near impossible now and even Disney transportation isn’t immune. Traffic on Buena Vista Drive (the main road in front of DTD) is practically a parking lot in itself at times. Disney buses are forced to wait in traffic with everyone else.
Disney has now started testing a new route from Animal Kingdom park to DTD and that will help some but here are a few other options:
1) Use Disney buses but get off at the Marketplace stop. It’s the first stop they make downtown and will avoid the traffic. It’s a longer walk if you are going to West Side but it’s a nice walk with lots to see.
2) Park at Disney Casting. It’s right across the street from Marketplace and has been used by Disney recently to cover overflow parking.
3) Visit Port Orleans or Saratoga Springs and use the boats. The boat ride is a nice change of pace and lets you see some things you may have never seen. If you are a Disney resort guest and show them your Key to the World at the security gate, you should have no problem telling them you want to explore the resort. If you are not a guest it’s a little trickier but letting the security person know you are going to have a cocktail at one if the (really fun) lounges should get you through. If you feel guilty telling them a lie then go in and enjoy a cocktail before catching your boat. You’ll need to pass through the resorts to get there anyway.
I hope this helps avoid some issues. Please keep looking back here or subscribe to our newsletter for more updates on this and any other changes coming to Walt Disney World and as always have a magical day!!!
As if checking into a Disney resort isn’t exciting enough now you get jewelry! Don’t worry guys it doesn’t cost extra, and ladies they have accessories!
This little beauty is the new Disney Magic Band, your bracelet to the world. While this is still in the “testing” phase the concept is awesome. You will have everything linked to this one central place, your room key, credit card, tickets, dining and FastPass+! We will explain those functions of your MagicBand in a later blog.
When you book your vacation you will go to Startmydisneyexperience.com and register. if you already have a Disney.com log in you can use that too but you will have to link your reservation first. Only then can you manage all your itinerary plans, Disney FastPass+ service and dining reservations, as well as modify plans on-the-go using in-park kiosks, Cast Members or their own smartphones and tablets. Once you’re set up there you get to pick a band for each member of your party and each person can pick their own color. They will arrive about two weeks before your scheduled vacation engraved with your name and delivered by the incredibles.
Now ladies, and some gentlemen, accessories! The magic Disney team has created a way for you to make your band even more personal! There are a variety of coverbands and MagicBandits, much like those that you use on crocs, and even magicsliders! A fun way to style up your band!
The coverbands are a fun way to add a pattern to the plain bands. They come in a variety of options anything from purple and black Haunted Mansion wallpaper to Small world prints to remind your of your favorite attractions or Phineas and Ferb and Star Wars! You can buy single band covers for $6.95 or three for $15.95
The sliders are large charms that turn your plain band into a character. Mickey and Minnie are currently available. The charm slides over the “magic chip” making it easy to find and use the touch feature to pay or at your fast pass attraction. Prices for these are between $12.95 and $14.95.
We all remember the rage that Jibbitzs cause when they first came out for crocs. Well Disney has created their own version called MagicBandits for the bands. This is probably the product that has most variety. These small charms feature popular characters and icons like Phineas and Ferb, the fab five, the muppets, Tinkerbell, Mickey ice cream bars, theme park icons, bling Minnie ears, nightmare before Christmas and of course classic Mickey. These range in price from $6.95 for a single to $12.95 for a triple pack.
Regardless of what you choose, plain or completely personalized, your band will be sure to help you save time and energy. Disney is still trying to enhance guest experiences and create magic and only select resorts are part of the testing at this time. Call us to plan your next trip and let us help you experience the new magic! Don’t forget to consider one of our new VIP tours to see Disney in a whole new light!
